Am in Phoenix .... part of the great diaspora caused by hurricane Katrina. It will be interesting to see what effects this has on all the hosting cities absorbing people with a different way. Even if there is none...that in itself tells a tale.
Phoenix is surprisingly beautiful in a sharp edged spare way. Am still entranced by the visuals from my son's balcony ....especially right after sunset when it resembles the clear tones of a children's story book. The dry climate allows even overpasses to be made into works of art, designs etched or molded into the stone. No worries about erosion from rain.
The bag of Tostitos that my son left open ....4 days later the chips still were crispy and fresh tasting. Every little strip mall has a water shop. And I, used to walking 4-6 miles on a park track in water-rich lush Louisiana, can understand why... when after only 5 blocks walk am lagging until I stop to drink or get a shaved ice.
Am of two minds about relocating here. There is no water. And I am a huge water person. It calls to me as does the lush foliage where water is abundant. Am wondering if the stark beauty of the xeri gardenng and clear tableaus can make up for it's lack.
